Reception - Elderberry & Holly

Welcome to Elderberry and Holly

All about your teachers

Miss Jeffery - Elderberry Class Teacher.

Hi, my name is Miss Jeffery and I am really enjoying working in Reception this year. I have been at Ingram Road for a little while now, but always in Nursery. Lots of you may know that I have a dog named Rolo and at the weekend we go on long walks. I enjoy spending time with my friends and family. I also enjoy baking in the kitchen yummy cakes and biscuits. My favourite colour is purple and my favourite animal would be a giraffe. They are just so tall!

Ms Granger - Holly Class Teacher

Hi, My name is Ms Granger, I wanted to share a few things about myself. My favourite animal is a hedgehog and I love the colour red. Very recently I became Granny to my third grandson. When we are together we love to hike, shoot our bows and swim in lakes. To relax I watercolour paint, I enjoy sending homemade greeting cards to my family and friends. I'm no artist but I enjoy it. I also like to upcycle charity shop bargains, like making waterproof covers for my bicycle baskets from an old poncho. Running in the swimming pool keeps me fit, I also cycle and do yoga.

This half term we are learning about;

Our overarching theme this half term is 'All about me.'

This is a lovely topic to start Reception with as we are settling the children into their new school and supporting them in getting used to new rules and routines. It gives the children chance to talk about themselves and their friends and family, to consider their likes and dislikes. Our learning for this will be taught during provision which we call busy time where the children can choose a between a range of activities, which might be inside or outside. For example, drawing pictures of our families at the writing table, or making playdough faces, using box craft to make our house. We also have chat times as small groups and classes to share our thoughts and ideas on our learning.

Alongside this we will also be looking for signs of autumn as the seasons change around us.

In Maths we will begin looking at Numbers in depth from 1-10 with lots of work around counting, counting out, representing and writing numbers.

We are also starting our Phonics learning with Floppy's Phonics. Look out for our Phonics stay and play session coming soon!

Don't forget, we use Tapestry to document your child's learning at school, so you can see at home!

Important things to remember:

Phonics packs

Your child will bring home a Phonics pack on a Friday, with their Phonics book inside, take a look and take part in any activities we send home. These packs must come back to school on a Monday.

Reading Books

Each week your child will bring home a reading book, you will also have a reading record book to record the reading that you do at home. These must come into school each day.

PE Days

Elderberry Class PE day is Thursday.

Holly Class PE day is Friday.

At school we provide water bottles for the children to have drinks during the day.

We would encourage all children to bring some spare clothes so we can change children into their own clothes if needed.

Please can all items of clothing coming into school be named, then they can returned to the correct person.
