Healthy Schools - Our Vision

Healthy schools

Encouraging our children to adopt a healthy lifestyle is of paramount importance at Ingram Road Primary School. We are committed to encouraging and developing positive attitudes towards health and well-being through an engaging curriculum.

All aspects of food within our school is well-balanced, varied and nutritious. We have water points with cold fresh water available throughout our school and children/parents are encouraged to buy an Ingram Road water bottle or bring their own for the classroom.

As part of the government initiative, parents can pre order milk, on a termly basis via www.schoolmoney.co.uk for their children to enjoy during snack time. Foundation Stage and KS1 children are also offered a range of fresh fruit or vegetables each day.

Two years ago, we developed our playtimes so that the children are able to access a range of activities. We have also partnered with Health For All who provide a daily sporting activities for every child from Reception to year 6. This is during dinner time in 15 minute slots.

The children have been involved in changing different aspects of our school, they have looked at the dinner hall and feedback has been taken from each class. From the student council feedback, we have started a golden table on a Friday for children who have shown exceptional behaviour in the dinner hall. The children have also had involvement in choosing which activities they would like to see during lunch time.

It is our aim to make every day a ‘Healthy School Day’, with a focus on healthy eating and physical activities. Every child has the opportunity to grow and cook fresh foods throughout the year and the children are encouraged to use our salad bar at dinner times. Playtime staff organise and oversee a variety of playground games using a range of PE equipment during break time and we have a vast range of after school activities available to children, including a cooking club and active club.

We also promote good relationships with our peers, siblings and families in (Personal, Social,Health and Citizenship Education)  PSHE, and talk about social and emotional issues in (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) SEMH. We have a Time2Talk area where children can speak to Anna, our in house counsellor who can help children talk about any problems they may be experiencing, either in school or at home.
