Physical Education

Ingram Road are a 'Real Legacy' School

Ingram Road Primary School is proud to be a partner with Create Development and is a real legacy school and strives to create a new ambition for EVERY child.

Not only are we on a mission to get our children more active by developing the fundamental physical skills that are so often overlooked, our PE lessons will be centred around the child to enable them to be successful in the classroom and in later life.

real legacy allows us to bring the school, home and the community together to enable cultural change. Our journey commenced with real PE teacher training to support our PE provision to develop the whole child and will now extend across the school to include supporting families and the wider school community. The school will be supported with teacher training, school based support, fun family engaging strategies, enrichment and competitive opportunities and supporting resources from Create Development all through a holistic approach to develop children's physical, personal, social and emotional skills.

Jasmine's Journey

Creating positive relationships with physical activity for life

How do we ensure we promote a positive attitude towards physical education?

Rationale

Ingram Road Primary School recognises the vital contribution that Physical Education makes to a child's physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development, as well as the positive role it can play in a child's spiritual, moral and cultural development. Physical Education is one of the statutory foundation subjects of the National Curriculum, and makes a vital and unique contribution to every child’s physical development, health and wellbeing.

Through building up a body of key knowledge and skills, pupils should be encouraged to recognise the benefits of a healthy and active lifestyle and develop a sense of pride and excitement in their personal achievements.

Aims

Our PE curriculum is designed to provide every child with the opportunity to reach their physical, social and emotional potential. It allows them to discover the capabilities of their bodies, develop an in depth understanding of how their body can change, and build a repertoire of skills to aid them throughout their lives.

As a school we have recently invested in real PE, a scheme of work that we felt matched our vision and the needs of our children perfectly. It focuses on 6 key areas that we feel are essential in the development of children as they grow and learn. The key areas are shown below, each with an overview of what we aim to provide each child with as a result of outstanding physical education.

PE Curriculum & PE Policy

Real PE

At Ingram Road we follow a scheme of planned lessons called Real PE created by a company called Create Development to deliver PE across the whole school. We decided to take the Real PE route as it is a unique, child-centred approach that transforms how PE is taught to engage and challenge EVERY child.

What does Real PE do?

It provides fun and simple to follow Schemes of Work and support for Early Years Foundation Stage, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 that helps deliver outstanding PE. It is fully aligned to the National Curriculum and Ofsted requirements and focuses on the development of agility, balance and coordination, healthy competition and cooperative learning through a unique and market leading approach to teaching and learning in PE.

What makes real PE unique?

Real PE is, first and foremost, a philosophy and approach which aims to transform how we teach PE in order to include, challenge and support EVERY child.

Safety during PE

Every sporting event and activity club we offer has your child’s safety as it’s priority; a leaflet has been put together to assist you with any questions you may have please click here for more information.

Our school PE Policy explains what our aims and ethos are for children and physical activity, we welcome your feedback.

PE Kit

At Ingram Road we believe that bringing the correct kit for PE is important. It helps get off to a good start in lessons, it makes sure pupils are able to reach the performance levels they are capable of and it is hygienic. The required kit for indoor activities is a white T-shirt, black shorts and  a pair of trainers. For outdoor PE sessions, during the Winter, children may wear plain black or navy jogging bottoms and/or a plain black or navy jumper.  Children should not wear jewellery in school. However, if there is an item of jewellery worn for religious reasons class teachers should be informed. PE kit is available to order at the school office.

Keeping Children Active

Other ways we keep children active at Ingram Road

As well as PE lessons taught during the school day, Ingram Road have many partnerships to assist in developing and maintaining overall participation in School Games competitions and increasing the physical activity of every child.

Health For All coaches who provide a sport coach every lunchtime encouraging every child to take part in different games every day, as well as specific games timetabled every lunchtime for children to get involved in.

After School we host a range of activities including dance, poms, football, mutli-sports and athletics to name but a few.

We also have links with British Military Martial Arts who provide fun-filled martial arts activities every Tuesday evening and Beeston Juniors who are always keen to take on new football recruits!
