  • Important - Free School Meal Collections

    Tue 31 Mar 2020

    31st March

    Dear Parents/Carers

Free School Meal Provision During School Closure

As you are aware, children who are entitled to claim Free School Meals have had a packed lunch available to collect from school every day during the current school closure.

We appreciate that coming to school every day to collect a packed lunch hasn’t been possible for some families.

    Food Hampers

Therefore, in conjunction with Leeds City Council Catering Agency, Ingram Road have opted to provide weekly ‘food hampers’ instead of the daily packed lunches we are currently providing.

The 'hampers' will be one per FSM pupil (so a family with 3 children will get 3 packs) and will contain a loaf of bread, 3 lots of cheese, 2 tins of tuna, 1 packet of biscuits, 1 carton of apple juice, 5 pieces of fruit, 5 small bags of crisps, 5 yoghurts & a tub of margarine. The parent will then be able to make the lunch at home.  The hampers will need to be collected weekly.

The Department for Education have advised that there are different ways to help families who are in receipt of free school meals, and this is dependent on individual schools. At Ingram Road we believe that this is the best option, and an option that will be more helpful to the majority of our families who are currently eligible for Free School Meals.

    Breakfast Packs

Magic Breakfast have today delivered a batch of 'Breakfast Packs' for our FSM children. For each child there is a pack of bagels, a large tin of beans and a box of porridge sachets. These should be collected from school every week.

Please note; Free School meals are not to be confused with the free meals the government provide to all children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2.

If your circumstances have recently changed, you may be eligible to claim free school meals for your child, please visit our website for more information.

In the meantime, we will contact all of our families who are entitled to free school meals to advise when the hampers and breakfast packs are ready for collection.

  • Home Learning - Help!

    Thu 26 Mar 2020

    26th March

    Dear Parents/Carers

We are getting some great feedback from parents about the different activities you and your children are doing to keep busy.

Here are a few top tips:

We keep getting asked 'Home learning - am I doing it right?'

Here are suggestions that teachers have put on our  Home Learning page for each phase

Foundation, Nursery, Elderberry and Holly class

Key Stage 1 Beech, Cedar and Willow

Lower Key Stage 2 - Maple, Hazel and Elm

Upper Key Stage 2 - Oak, Ash and Sycamore

There's no right or wrong way. You are not supposed to be able to teach in the same way that a school teacher would. This isn't the expectation. We just want you to be able to help you to keep your children busy!

The best thing you can do is a little bit each day:

    • A little bit of reading - their own reading book or look at the resources on Home Learning.
    • A little bit of writing -  write a diary each day of what you have been doing or look at the resources on Home Learning.
    • A little bit of maths - practice basic maths skills, counting, adding or look on the resources in Home Learning
    • A little bit of physical activity - keeping active is important, make up your own exercise routine!

It's time to get creative! Try baking some buns, or ask your children to help tidy cupboards or drawers with you, or draw some colourful pictures for your neighbours.

But please don't let yourself or your children get stressed about whether you are doing enough or whether you're 'doing it right'.

The most important thing is that you stay at home, and stay safe, and remember, there are staff in school, if you want to ask any questions please contact school between 8am and 3pm.

Your child's class teacher will contact you weekly to see how you are, and answer any questions you may have.

    Kind regards

  • Free School Meals

    Mon 23 Mar 2020

    23rd March

    Dear Parents/Carers

Children who are entitled to claim Free School Meals will have a packed lunch available to collect from school every day during the current school closure.

    • The packed lunch will be available to collect from the school office between 12 o'clock and 12.30pm (there are still people in the office if you are a little bit earlier or a little bit later so dont worry!).
    • Please observe social distancing at ALL TIMES - please leave a 2 metre space between you and the next person

We intend to continue to provide Free School Meals in this way until we are notified of alternative options available to parents. This decision will be made by the Local Authority and Catering Leeds who provide our school meals.

If you are unable to collect your child's meal, we understand.

If you are having problems either because you are self isolating and cant get to the shops, or you are struggling financially, please contact school and we will see what we can do to help.

There's also help on our website.

    Please dont struggle alone!

  • Coronavirus - LOCKDOWN - Government Update 23rd March

    Mon 23 Mar 2020

    23rd March

    Dear Parents/Carers

With the news this evening that more shops and public spaces are closed from tonight, I wanted to make sure that our families are fully aware of what this means to them.

The only reasons you may leave home:

    • Shopping for basic necessities, for example food and medicine, which must be as infrequent as possible.

    • One form of exercise a day, for example a run, walk, or cycle -alone or with members of your household.

    • Any medical need, or to provide care or to help a vulnerable person.

    • Travelling to and from work, but only where this absolutely cannot be done from home.

This means that children should not play out in the park or on the street. Children should be at HOME with an adult and follow the rules above.

Read the full guidance released from the Government today.

While this is a very difficult situation, if people continue to do their 'normal' daily routine, then the virus will continue to get worse.

Please, keep you and your family safe by staying at HOME. This will be he case for at least the next 3 weeks.

We will continue to update our school community by posting links and news on our website; all of the up to date information can be found in one place.

    Yours faithfully

    Miss Millard

    Headteacher

MESSAGE TO PARENTS FROM LEEDS CHILDREN AND FAMILIES DIRECTORATE

We understand that these are uncertain times for everyone, and whilst the schools are closed it can seem harder to find information about what this means for you.  School websites will be updated, letting you know about your own child’s school, and we will be posting up to date information on the Council website too.

We have received lots of enquiries about what it means to be a key worker and whether your child should be attending school from Monday 23rd March.

Our advice to parents is clear: Every child who can be safely cared for at home should be.

It is really important that we all work together to stop the Covid-19 virus from spreading, and children staying at home helps to do this.  For the majority of children this is the safest place to be.

Schools will not be able to look after large numbers of pupils safely, as their own staff will also have to follow the rules about self-isolating.

The final decision as to whether a child can be safely accommodated at the school rests with the Headteacher/Principal based on their risk assessment of the situation.  The Local Authority are supporting Headteachers/Principals in applying the following principles:

    • Schools remain open only for those children who absolutely need to attend.
    • The majority of children will be made safer by adhering to the principle above.
    • School is open to pupils of key workers only where they would not be safe at home and the parents have no other option but for their child to be at school if they are to continue to do their jobs.

If your child has an Education Health Care Plan or a social worker, the decision as to whether they should attend school will be made in consultation with the Headteacher, parents and social workers. If your child can be looked after at home safely, then they should be. Staffing levels may not be high enough for all children to attend.

Headteachers and education staff are playing a crucial part in the national Covid-19 strategy. We would like to thank them for doing all they can to keep our city functioning at this difficult time and in supporting parents to play their vital role in the effort.

    Yours faithfully,

    Saleem Tariq

    Director of Children and Families

  • Coronavirus Update 23rd March

    Sun 22 Mar 2020

    Monday 23rd March

    Dear Parent/Carer

All schools across the county are closed. Unless you have been contacted (by text message) about your child attending school tomorrow you and your child should stay at home in order to slow down the spread of the virus.

Children arriving in school today should arrive and be collected from the front office to be registered in school (the playground gates will be CLOSED).

Breakfast club will be open at 8.15 as normal (to arrive no later than 8.30am) and you can collect your child at 3.15pm. There will be no 'activities' after 3.15.

There will be provision until 4.30 for those parents who require it for work purposes only.

For more information about the school closure and for advice go to: https://www.ingramroad.leeds.sch.uk/coronavirus-advice-information/

    • The overriding principle is that schools remain open only for those children who absolutely need to attend.
    • The majority of children will be made safer if we stick to the principle above. All other children should remain at home, indoors with their parent/carer.
    • School is open to pupils of key workers only where they would not be safe at home and the parents have no other option but for their child to be at school if they are to continue to do their jobs. This is not an entitlement.

Government advice can be found here please read this.

We are following the guidelines of the Government. If you arrive at school with your child tomorrow without school contacting you, please don't be offended if as a 'key worker' you are asked for your work identification card to prove where you work. Our staff have been asked to follow procedure.

We thank you for your co-operation and understanding in these difficult times, and wish you and your family well.

We are still here to support you in any way that we can. If you need support or advice please contact 0113 2456136 during normal school hours 8am-4pm.

    Kind regards

  • A message to the children from the Chair of Governors

    Fri 20 Mar 2020

    Friday 20th March

The governors at Ingram Road would like you to know that our thoughts and good wishes go home with you this Friday afternoon. We hope that all our pupils and their families and friends will be able to look after themselves and find ways to make a difficult situation as positive as can be.

A lot of organisation has taken place to try and help you make the most of the weeks to come. Arrangements are being made to look after you if the people who look after you at home are key workers. You will have work to do when you are at home so that you can keep up with your education. There will be meals to pick up if you have a free school meal. There are lots of people in your community who want to help you if they can, and we will be getting in touch with them over the coming weeks, so make sure you get in touch with school if you are feeling that you need help with something.

You are part of a historic situation as you go home this afternoon. Nothing quite like this has happened in our country before. Why not keep some kind of record of the things that happen? It will be something to tell your grandchildren about!

If you do just one thing while you are at home, please remember everything your teachers have told you about the importance of reading and try to read as many books as you can. If you come back to school as an avid reader, you will have made the best possible use of your time.

    Mrs D Porter

    Chair of Governors

  • School Closures 20th March and Reduced Provision from 23rd March

    Fri 20 Mar 2020

    Friday 20th March

    Dear Parents/Carers

As you will be aware the Government has confirmed that all schools in England will close today (Friday 20th March) until further notice. Ingram Road will close at 3.15pm today.

As of Monday 23rd March Ingram Road Primary School, along with many other schools, will provide reduced provision (childcare) which will be open to certain pupils. There will not be a formal education programme in place and the school will operate with reduced staffing.

Please can you let us know by 1pm today if you would like your child to attend from Monday so that we can consider all requests.

Consideration will be given to children:

    • whose parents are ‘key workers’, (click to see if you are a key worker)
    • those who are in receipt of Free School Meals (if you receive certain benefits)
    • who have a social worker
    • who have an EHCP (Education and Health Care Plan)
    • those whose parents have requested support

We will aim to confirm places by the end of today. You can only attend if you have been offered a place.

    Self Isolation

If you have notified school that your family is Self-Isolating you will be expected to continue isolating until the end of your isolation period, which we have recorded on the school system. If at the end of your isolation period, you would like to be considered for place for your child you must get in touch with school first and wait for confirmation of your place before you send your child to school.

    Yours faithfully

    Miss S Millard

    Headteacher
