Our week in LKS2 - 16th September 2022

We have had a busy week this week in LKS2.

We started our week by enjoying Spanish Day which has launched the learning of Spanish across school. Each class learnt about a different Spanish speaking country from around the world. Please ask your child if they can remember the country they learnt about and any interesting facts about it! Many of the children were surprised to learn that there are 20 countries in the world that have Spanish as their main spoken language.

This week, your child will have started to learn about rags to riches tales in English with a focus on the story of Egyptian Cinderella. This ties in with this term's topic 'The Awful Egyptians.' As the term progresses, your child will be learning a lot about the Ancient Egyptians and their civilisation. Please look out in future blog posts for details of exciting events that will be taking place as part of our topic.

In Science, our children have started their lessons all about rocks and fossils. Please do ask your children about the different types of rock that they will learn about over the coming weeks.

Homework

Today, your child will have had English homework set for them on Purple Mash which needs to be completed by next Wednesday. They will also have been sent a Maths Learn-It along with an explanation of how the learn its will work. As always, your child will need to read regularly and get their reading record signed.

Please do not hesitate to contact your child's class teacher about their homework if you have any questions.

UKS2 Weekly Blog - 24th June 2022

It has been yet another busy week in UKS2 this week with lots of interesting and exciting things happening.

The children across the key stage have approached the RHE lessons with such high levels of maturity and enthusiasm. They have asked some very sensible and well thought out questions during the sessions too. The RHE lessons will conclude next week. Well done UKS2 for working so hard this week!

Year 6 have been busy rehearsing for their end of year production of 'The Greatest Show.' Many children have already begun to learn their lines and are doing very well! Please look out for future blog posts with details of when the performances will be happening.

Next week, many of our children will be completing their assessment week where they will be able to show off all of their learning from this year. I have no doubt the children will work incredibly hard. You will be able to see how well they have done when you have received their end of year school report at the end of this term.

As always, thank you for your continued support.

UKS2 Weekly Blog - 10th June 2022

It has been lovely to see all the children back this week ready for the final part of the summer term! We have had lots of fun in UKS2 this week. Sycamore Class are now completing Maths projects, using all the skills they have learnt this year to solve a range of real life Maths problems. In English, Oak and Ash classes are learning about how to write balanced arguments. I was lucky enough to read some of these today and the children are doing really well!

In the afternoons, we have been visiting Slung Low this week, where we have been watching performances about climate change. The children really enjoyed crawling into the 'ship' and meeting the robot! The children wore headsets to hear the performer and had a wonderful time!

Next week, many of our Year 6 children will be going on their residential to Lineham Farm. We are all very excited! Please look out for photos on the school's Twitter account so you can keep up with your child's adventures!

Year 5 and our remaining Year 6 children will also be visiting the Carriageworks Theatre next Friday. They will walk to the theatre to take part in the day's events. I will look forward to hearing all about them when we return from Lineham!

UKS2 Weekly Blog - 27th May 2022

I cannot quite believe it is half term already! As always, it has been a busy half term and the children in UKS2 have worked exceptionally hard!

This week, the children have been preparing the for the Jubilee celebrations. The children have been making their own placemats, ready for their jubilee lunch! Some children have even made their own crowns!

The children in Oak and Ash have been learning all about JK Rowling this week and have been busy writing letters to the author. They have thought about the questions that they would like to ask. Let's hope that we get a reply soon!

Sycamore, on the other hand, have been beginning to learn about how to write a good mystery story including lots of suspense! Sycamore will continue with this learning after half term.

We are now excited about beginning to make our toys after half term. As soon as we begin, there'll be photos for you to enjoy.

It has been an incredibly busy half term for all of our children, so I'd like to wish everyone a very happy and restful half term!

Foundation Stage Weekly News 20th May 2022

What a busy week Foundation Stage! The children have enjoyed different activities both indoors and outdoors in this lovely warm weather.

Next week we are going to be celebrating the Queen's Jubilee! We have lots of exciting activities planned with more details to follow soon!

**Please can you make sure that you send a change of clothes into school with your child. The children are getting much better at using the toilets at school but sometimes they cannot always make it in time. We have a limited amount of spare clothes and we may have to start calling you to bring a change of clothes for your child. **

Nursery News

This week Nursery have been learning lots about the farm! Our construction area has been transformed into a farmyard where the children have been enjoying exploring with the different animals. We are really good at being able to make the noises of the different animals and have been starting to think about the names of the animals babies for example a baby cow is called a calf, a baby sheep is called a lamb. It would be great if you can continue to talk to your child about this at home...

In Phonics this week, we have begun reading a story called 'At the Market.' These pages are really busy with lots of people buying things at the market. For example there is a fruit and vegetable stall, one where you can buy fish and another where you can buy a smoothie.

In Maths this week we have been continuing our learning around the number 3. In our key worker group, the children were able to sort the pictures between if it had 3 objects on or not. We did really well with this activity and all the children are able to count 1,2, and 3 objects correctly. At home you could show different amounts and ask your child to count them. At the moment we are working on counting objects to 5 carefully.

Reception News

In Reception we have been looking at the traditional tale, “White Hen and the Fox”. The vocabulary words we have been learning with actions are  forty winks, snooze, loaded, escape, similar, ignite, flaming and devious –Please support your child in learning these words and the actions that go with them.

In Maths the children have been counting back from numbers up to 10 and participating in different activities exploring subtraction. We watched this Numberblocks episode - 10 Green Bottles

Talking with your children about numbers and helping them to write them correctly will also really support their learning at school.

In Phonics we continue to sing the alphabet song at the start of each phonics lesson. This week we have been learning the letter sounds, “ar as in arm” and ‘or as in fork’. If you would like to have a look with your child at some phonics activities, please use the following link -

We hope you find this website useful in supporting your child's learning. Every Friday your child will bring home their phonics folders to share their learning. Please return this folder back to school on Monday. We can then add the next sounds into their books. We are also sending home helpful words for the children to learn to read and write as well as sheets that the children can use to practise writing their name,

Reminders

Reception children have their own school water bottles at school. Nursery children need to bring in a named water bottle containing water but not juice.

As the weather is getting warmer, please send a named sun hat for them to wear when learning outdoors.

Thank you for your continued support.
